Finally a place for me to rant…Yes the guy behind the camera has a personality and some shit to say…Here I will talk about everything from photography to sex and everything inbetween. Hope you enjoy…well at least interact.
Hello world!
February 24, 2009Certifications…get real!!!
February 24, 2009I guess my first rant will be addressing the so call CERTIFICATIONS, the so called PROFESSIONALS like to tout. I’m not talking about doctors, lawyers and the such…I talking about web “PROFESSIONALS”. You see them all the time. SEO Certified, PPA, CIW, Google Adwords Certified, etc…This is hilarious to me and I’m sure others who actually know these things are a contradiction to themselves. There is no authority who issues a SEO certifications. There aren’t any standards to do so yet. So the person who flaunts SEO Certified is really telling you they paid to take a seminar and was given a certificate at the end of the week. The people who take these seminars don’t seem to realize the hustle that’s going on. The seminar hosts are really just salespeople who are in the business of selling certificates. They themselves have not been certified by any board or state to do so. These hosts just decided 1 day that it would be profitable to sell certificates for “X” amount of dollars. So instead of them practicing what the preach they are now full time “instructors”. When do they have time to optimize a site? And why would they fail you? These seminars have an 90% pass rate. Think people!!! How credible would your doctors be if Medical School had a 90% pass rate? Most of these so called “CERTIFICATIONS” are nothing more than membership fees. They really mean nothing. I’ve seen high school kids design better websites using Front Page than many of these so called Certified Designers. Photography isn’t about having the most expensive camera equipment. Web design doesn’t have to cost you and arm and leg. Fancy portfolios mean nothing. As a potential client your questions should be “what can you do for me” rather than what you did previously. I very rarely show clients prior work. I immediately begin designing for their needs. What I did for 1 client usually has nothing to to with another. I work solely on referrals so new clients come from clients that I have already pleased. I spend the bulk of my time taking care of my clients. I don’t have time to keep up with a portfolio. I only update my personal business sites once a year. Plain and simple….”CERTIFICATIONS” mean very little….Results are what matter. I stand behind my work not my certifications and equipment.
